Pink Alliance is a charitable institution exempt from tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance in Hong Kong. It was built on the momentum created by Tongzhi Community Joint Meeting (TCJM), an alliance of LGBT+ groups formed in 1999 on the back of Hong Kong’s first LGBT+ festival. TCJM evolved into an organisation in its own right and was formally registered as a legal entity in Societies Registry in 2009. It was rebranded “Pink Alliance” in 2011 and granted charity status by the government in 2016. Its main objective is to promote equal rights for LGBT+ people through lobbying, education and campaigns. It aims to facilitate unity and cooperation in the LGBT+ community of Hong Kong by being the link between LGBT+ organizations and others supportive of the cause. The organisation is governed by a board whose members are elected by general members for two-year terms. The day-to-day running is driven by an operational committee of volunteers, who are given voting rights once they have shown consistent contribution for two years. Other than the Pink Season, Pink Alliance also has numerous other successful initiatives in its track record. It was instrumental in bringing Pink Dot from Singapore to Hong Kong and was Pink Dot Hong Kong’s co-organizer from 2014 to 2017. It has observed the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia for a number of years through public rallies, and its 2012 gathering was the first LGBT+ event Canto-pop star Anthony Wong Yiu-ming attended after he had come out in his concert. Other notable Pink Alliance projects include "I AM ME" viral videos and Tongzhi Tsai anti-bullying campaign. Pink Alliance founded Pink Season Hong Kong in 2011 as its flagship event scheduled for the autumn of every year. It is Asia’s premier diversity and inclusion festival with a five-week programme of activities across many genres such as arts and culture, education, family, entertainment, as well as sports and adventures.
